The atmosphere at this Logan Square Argentinean restaurant is as sprightly as the ostrich-like bird it’s named for. Every evening, slides of South American scenes are projected on a screen above the stage in the eatery's dining room; on Friday and Saturday nights, musicians perform Latin tunes on the small stage. Thursdays are open mic night, with a guitar and keyboard player accompanying patrons. El Nandu's menu includes eight types of empanadas – including the criolla, stuffed with ground beef, red peppers, onions, olives, raisins and egg, and the camarones, packed with fresh shrimp -- plus other meat-focused meals such as churrasco (grilled N.Y. strip steak), which comes with toppings like grilled onions or cheese.
