The brains, brawn and talent behind this no-frills BYOB tucked away in Rogers Park is none other than Deta herself. Her menu includes hearty homemade favorites such as goulash and chicken stew, but the real winner here is the melt-in-your-mouth burek, a type of savory phyllo pastry filled with salty cheeses, vegetables (Deta uses spinach) or meats (here, you have your pick or beef or lamb), all rolled into a round shape similar to an old-fashioned lollipop. It’s best served fresh out of the oven, and if you call an hour in advance Deta will make one fresh for you to take home or enjoy in the modest dining room.
