Opened in 1987, D & J Bistro was the northwest suburbs' first bistro, and it still outpaces the competition with fresh French cooking and budget-friendly prices. Keep and eye out for the "Quick-Fixe" lunches and super-reasonable three-course prixe-fixe dinners. The Bistro "Plat du Jour" never disappoint: It might be a wonderful roasted leg of spring lamb hand rubbed with garlic and herb de Provence, served with haricots verts and flageolet. D&J Bistro (for owners Dominique and Jacqueline Legeai) also features a monthly "true bistro" dish such as cassoulet, steak pommes frite or sweetbreads and a serious selection of wine. In the bar, take advantage of inexpensive but delish snacks like seasonal smelt basket with spicy mayo.
