Cool Mirchi

"Mirchi" means "chillies," and though they aren't literally cool, the name reflects the self-proclaimed trendiness of this new Indian restaurant in Roselle. It doesn't look overtly so to us, with a strip mall locale, neutral tile floor and medallion-print wallpaper, but its concept of Indian cuisine for all palates and use of sustainable, local produce is admirable, and definitely new to the area. For weekday lunches, an affordable "express lunch box" is available in vegetarian or non-vegetarian versions. Appetizers include paneer pankora (cottage cheese fritters with mint chutney) and kaledar murg (spiced, pan-seared chicken tenders), while entrees range from prawn Malai curry to minced lamb with garam masala. Traditional drinks to sip on include chai, bright mango lassi and coconut water, while beer, wine and liquor is also served.
