The dense hardo bread and pastries, cookies and rum cake at this Rogers Park spot are based on family recipes (the owner's clan hails from Kingston, Jamaica), and most are made on site daily. The bakery, open since 1982, also is known for its turnover-like beef and jerk chicken patties, available fresh or frozen for thawing and reheating at home. Weekdays, you can stop in during the day for sweets or a patty. Entrees such as jerk chicken, packaged with slices of fresh-baked bread, rice, peas and baked plantains, are only available weekends.
