The team behind West Town's latest addition, which includes Cary Michael (formerly of Rockit) and Howard Natinsky (Fat Cat, Five Star), aims for a casual, inviting vibe at this American bistro that takes its name from the building's past life as the 27th Ward's library branch. Chicago Avenue. Chef Katherine August, former sous shef at Sunda, is serving up the modern-rustic American menu, which includes dishes such as shrimp and grits with house-cured tasso ham; tagliatelle with a duck and pork bolognese; and a lamb meatball-duck confit-braised pork belly cassoulet. Terrazzo-tiled floors, exposed brick, custom-made furnishings with cast iron touches, and repurposed woods give the completely renovated former library a comfortable, rustic feel. The three-room space includes a back atrium with seating for about 35 and a separate bar area with eight taps pouring craft beers. There's no outdoor seating, but in the summer, the front windows open onto Chicago Avenue.
