Laura Cid-Perea and Luis Perea, husband-and-wife owners of BomBon Cake Gallery and La Lagartija Taqueria, are behind this small cafe near the United Center. The menu focuses on tortas, Mexican-style sandwiches served on freshly baked bread. Try the Sonora, piled with marinated steak, cheese, mixed greens, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, jalapenos and avocado. Other sandwich stuffings include homemade chorizo, serrano ham, pork carnitas, cured beef and pork stew. Not in a sandwich mood? Go for alambres, a sizzling dish of marinated beef, chihuahua cheese, bacon, green peppers, onions, guacamole and salsa, served with warm tortillas. A selection of artisan breads and other baked treats is also available daily. Sunday brunch brings favorites such as huevos rancheros and chilaquiles.
