Jennifer Kane, the pastry chef behind this Bucktown bakery, sold sweets at the Division Street farmers market under the name Baked before giving operations a permanent home. Kane and her husband/business partner Eric Estrella have worked in pastry at luxury hotels across the country, but many of the recipes featured at Bake are classics she's been making since she was a child. Favorites include her signature banana-chocolate chip cookie, coconut macaroons, an eight-layer chocolate devil's food cake and an oatmeal sandwich cookie that riffs off the Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie. With seating for about 20 and a children's play area, the bakery is more than a grab-and-go spot; Kane encourages lingering over dessert and a cup of Metropolis coffee.
