Avalon Park contains great facilities and committed Chicago Park District employees. Every hour of the day has a program or an activity available for young men and women. Programs include dancing, tumbling, cheerleading, fitness, volleyball, and teen counseling for young women; wrestling, basketball, martial arts, fitness, tumbling, volleyball and counseling for young men. In addition to the structured youth activities, the park is one of only six South Side parks to contain a woodshop. Avalon also has great outdoor facilities, including a pool, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a playground, football field, shuffle board court, tennis courts, a track field and picnic tables. In winter, a refrigerated ice rink is open for general use 3-5 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 12:30-3:30 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
