Army & Lou's is currently closed. "As of Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, restaurant operations are put on hold. We are still catering," reports the restaurant's answering machine message.
A dining institution on the South Side, Army & Lou's has a large, loyal clientele, drawn by its menu of high-end soul food. It was once a favored dining spot for Harold Washington, Chicago's first black mayor, and still attracts a good number of politicians to its tables. There are two main dining rooms and a private room to the right of the entrance that can seat between 20 and 30 people. A children's menu offers fish sticks and chicken nuggets.
