Most fittingly, Air Classics Inc./Museum of Aviation makes its home in a hangar at the Aurora Municipal Airport, just west of Aurora in Sugar Grove. It's easy to find; historic planes are parked out front. The museum displays a dozen planes and a helicopter that flew the not-so-friendly skies during World War II, Desert Storm and the years in between. There's a variety of sky-high memorabilia on display, including a space-flight suit and an exhibit paying homage to women in aviation. Several of the aircraft can be boarded and explored. Would-be pilots can take a seat behind the controls or wander under the wings for a final check before "take-off." Closed on Monday, the museum is open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and by appointment for group tours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Group tours also can be booked on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
