Chicago Weekend Recap
We lived up our furlough in the Second City and made a playlist about it

1
Lou Malnati's Pizzeria -
439 N. Wells St. - Chicago (River North)
Report this commentI met up with my old college roommate, Christa, here. I don't really know if this is the exact location, but we stopped first at her work inside the Merchandise Mart, where people dress like fashionable adults. I, of course, arrived completely soaked from the rain and Joe had to tell me to wipe my eyes off because I "looked like a crazy person." We had the quick/cheap lunch special - I with the baked potato soup. Delish!

Art Institute of Chicago -
111 S. Michigan Ave. - Chicago (Grant Park Museums)
Report this commentFebruary was free all month, and Joe and I benefited from one of the final free days. Thursday nights are free from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. all year round, though!

3
Chicago Cultural Center -
78 E. Washington St. - Chicago (Grant Park Museums)
Report this commentWe stopped in here to ward off a monsoon-like downpour on the advice of a friend. Right across from Millennium Park, I'd never been inside. What a great stop! Wander around and see the gorgeous Tiffany glass dome ceiling and read all of the mosaic inscriptions over the doors (they're about books, writing and reading because this used to be the Chicago Public Library). We went into one of the art exhibits, which matched a poet with a visual artist for little projects. I thought it was neat.

Chase Auditorium -
10 S. Dearborn St. - Chicago (Loop)
Report this commentMy friends and I arrived at 6:30 to get our names on a waiting list for the sold out "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me!" NPR news quiz. The show is $22 and you get to see Carl Castle in person! We hung around and played cards in the lobby an crossed our fingers until 7:15 when they called our names and we got in!

Hamburger Mary's -
5400 N. Clark St. - Chicago (Andersonville)
Report this commentI'd read about this LGBT-friendly burger joint a few times and was excited when my vegetarian BFF suggested we have dinner here. Delicious burgers and excellently seasoned fries. Apparently the veggie burgers are good, too.

Hideout -
1354 W. Wabansia Ave. - Chicago
Report this commentHideout is a hipster haven. Tucked in the middle of an industrial park, it looks like a ramshackle house, except there's an Old Style sign out front. This is the kind of place where it's OK to not wear deodorant and to have ridiculous facial hair. We went to see my boyfriend's cousin's band: Bird Names to a packed house. (There's a bar area in front and then another room with the stage.)

7
Third Rail Tavern -
1133 W. Madison St. - Chicago (West Loop)
Report this commentAfter the show, I went with my boyfriend and his uncles to this bar, where I tried a Goose Island Matilda (they have it on tap) and then remembered I don't like Belgian beer. I spent most of the night staring at a girl in a sleeveless dress who was making a fool of herself being a flirt.

Flourish Bakery Cafe -
1138 W Byrn Mawr Ave. - Chicago
Report this commentHung over and headed back north to get my moms van and return to the suburbs and pick up our dog and continue West home to Iowa, we stopped in here for coffee and a bite. I like the 1950s vibe of the place. I'd love to try a cake, but I had a breakfast burrito that had undercooked bacon in it. Joe liked his sausage turnover, though!
