When I've got friends coming in for the weekend, here how I run them ragged through Chicago. Best bet is to do this car-less. Use the el or cabs to get around
-
Mia Francesca -
3311 N. Clark St. - Chicago (Lakeview)
Report this commentIf they land in O'Hare mid Friday afternoon, head here first for dinner. They take reservations now but if you're there early enough you should be ok without.
-
Museum of Contemporary Art -
220 E. Chicago Ave. - Chicago (Gold Coast)
Report this commentIf you're friends are in on the first weekend of the month, after the early dinner head to First Friday's at the MCA. While the event is kinda a meet market, most everyone is looking at each other instead of the art so its easy to walk through.
-
Buddy Guy's Legends -
754 S. Wabash Ave. - Chicago (South Loop)
Report this commentGotta hit some blues during their stay and while Buddy Guy's is rather touristy it generally will have good blues pretty much any night they have music.
-
Yak-zies Bar and Grill -
506 W. Diversey Pkwy. - Chicago (Lincoln Park)
Report this commentSo, its currently closed but due to reopen soon, head out of Buddy Guy's by 12:30 to get to Yakzies before 1:30 or so. Then sit and watch the empty & dead bar turn to a mosh pit as the 2am bars start to close and everyone heads over.
-
Wieners Circle -
2622 N. Clark St. - Chicago (Lincoln Park)
Report this commentIts by now 5a Saturday morning and some soaking up needs to happen. Walk over to the Wiener Circle for a char dog and the local 'atmosphere'
-
Heaven on Seven -
111 N. Wabash Ave. - Chicago (Loop)
Report this commentAfter a quick nap after the Wiener Circle, head out for lunch on Saturday at Heaven on Seven on Wabash. No, its not exactly authentic Chicago fare, but it is a great find in the Jeweler's building. Few tourists would find this gem on their own
-
Wrigley Field -
1060 W. Addison St. - Chicago (Wrigleyville)
Report this commentIf they're in town, do what you can to get tickets and take them to a game. If its a summer off weekend, often they have tours of the park.
-
Penny's Noodle Shop -
3400 N. Sheffield Ave. - Chicago (Wrigleyville)
Report this commentFor quick/cheap eats after the game, only in Chicago can you have Thai noodles in a pie shaped space as the Ravenswood el crawls around the building...
-
Schubas Tavern -
3159 N. Southport Ave. - Chicago (Lakeview)
Report this commentFind some music to go see after dinner, preferrably an early show to keep the rest of the night available. Schuba's is my favorite, but the Vic, Metro, Martyrs, Elbo Room, etc are all good Lakeview spots for live music.
-
Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind
5153 N. Ashland Ave. - Chicago (Ravenswood)
Report this commentAfter the concert, head to to Andersonville to see the 30 plays in 60 minutes. Doors are at 10:30; best to get in line beforehand. Don't leave your ability to get in to see the show to speed & chance.
