Well, you’re probably right. But that doesn’t mean Fox hasn’t given it the old college try with its new comedy "The Return of Jezebel James."
When Sarah, a children’s book editor who has the perfect life—except for that pesky problem that she can’t get knocked up—decides that her carefree sister, Coco, would be the ideal woman to carry her baby, baby-makin’ hijinks ensue.
Who's that?: Parker Posey ("Superman Returns," "A Mighty Wind") flexes her comedic muscles in her network series debut as the kooky, determined Sarah. Stepping in to play Coco is Lauren Ambrose, best known for her role as "Six Feet Under"’s Claire Fisher. Filling out the rest of the cast is "Gilmore Girls" veteran Scott Cohen (playing Sarah’s love interest, Marcus Sonti) and Sarah’s loyal assistant, Buddy (Michael Arden).
Buzzed about: Amy Sherman-Palladio, the creator of "Gilmore Girls," is behind this production, and we hope that we can get as involved in her new show as we did her previous hit. At the very least, bringing Posey into the fold should certainly help. Posey certainly has the chops to pull this off, and in the first few episodes we cracked up when we saw glimpses of one of her previous characters—the obsessive dog owner from "Best in Show"—surface.
The “ooh” factor: You think life with your roommate was bad? At least you two have more in common than just having the same parents. Watching Sarah and Coco try to get along after Coco moves into Sarah’s Brooklyn pad is both touching and hilarious.
The “eh” factor: It’s hard to believe these two are sisters. Even if we put their extreme personality differences aside, one’s a redhead and one’s a brunette. Was their mom getting some action on the side?
The verdict: Equal parts "Gilmore Girls" and "Dharma and Greg," this comedy about female bonding is worth checking out. Fertility treatments not included.
"The Return of Jezebel James" premieres Friday, March 14 at 8 p.m./7c on FOX.
