"Kath & Kim" had everything going for it: a strong cast headed by Selma Blair, "SNL" alum Molly Shannon and the criminally underutilized John Michael Higgins ("Waiting for Guffman"), a tried-and-true format lifted from the highly successful Australian series upon which it was based and perhaps the most solid lead-in and follower on network TV: "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office," respectively. Sadly, NBC's version swapped subtlety and wit for flat one-liners, endless costume gags and a documentary camera style that makes "Cloverfield" look like "La Jetée."
