Fringe
Still nauseous from "Cloverfield"? Don't worry, for his latest TV offering, J.J. Abrams has finally sprung for a tripod. Part "X-Files," part "Twilight Zone," and partly entertaining, "Fringe" is being billed as the Big New Show of the Fall Season. Actor/mumbler Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek") plays a genius who teams up with his mad scientist pop ("Lord of the Ring"'s John Noble) and a female FBI agent (newcomer Anna Torv) of the 'sexy female FBI agent' variety, to uncover the truth about... something or other. Abrams is known for interweaving invented mythologies into his narratives, so keep a close eye on those cryptic images between commercial breaks.
Import, update or adaptation: Another Abrams original, with just a touch of "Frankenstein."
"Fringe" premieres Tuesday, September 9, at 8pm/7c on FOX.
