sarahwelly commented on Mojo Mickybo
Here is a snippet of the excellent Tribune review by Kerry Reid, which you can access elsewhere on this site: "Mojo Mickybo" ★★★ Seanachai returns to Belfast and Owen McCafferty with "Mojo Mickybo," a 1998 one-act about two boys, age 10, who form a friendship in 1970, just as "the Troubles" are heating up and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is the rage in the local movie house. Mojo (Robert Kauzlaric) and Mickybo (Dan Waller) meet on "an empty type of a day – the type a day you'd kick stones an chalk yer name on a wall rather than listen to yer ma and da spittin' bullets at each other," as Mojo puts it. The grown-up Mojo is also the narrator, but Kauzlaric and Waller play 14 other roles between them and their exuberant performances, which shift from boyish glee to raw confusion and fear in the flick of an eyelash, are the main reasons to see this tale of kids who fall in and out of friendship against a backdrop of sectarian violence.

These guys are awesome. Saw Fosse in rehearsal, and it looks better than Broadway.

Wow! It's just so great that cirque was coming to Chicago! But their tickets are usually so expensive...

Stayed at the hotel for wedding. Got in on a Friday and did the whole rehersal dinner thing with a big group. Majority of the party retired to gear up for the big day. A small group of us headed down to the lobby bar. Sweet bar for a hotel and actually had drink specials. After downing a few we could here a band gearing up to play a concert. By this time we were best friends with the bartender who mentioned he had a couple extra tickets. The tickets were for a band called "FNR". It was a rock'n'roll and they did all the Hairband songs with a few twists. But, This place was actually real cool. It was a real sweet set up, they had good drinks, the band sounded amazing and parking was free for going to the concert. I recommend this place to anyone and its nice to see a cool concert venue pop up just outside of Chicago.

Invitation to a Stranger, performed at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts was a huge success. Written by national award winning writer, Safia Bernard, directed by Emmy award winning Actress, Deanna Reed, and performed by a cast of outstanding talent with performance credits from The Goodman Theater, ETA Creative Arts Foundations, The Black Ensemble and the Steppenwolf Theater, to name a few. As the lights dimmed, the audience embarked upon a roller coaster of twists and turns, keeping them on the edge of their seats with anticipation. One lady commented, “I’m pretty good at figuring out endings, but I never saw this one coming, it was excellent!” Closing weekend sold out - attracting many repeat attendees. A job well-done!! Another great show for InFusion.

A very smart and funny show with a top notch cast combining the music of The Carpenters with the a very funny parody of the John Carpenter classic. Not to be missed!

Tonight's special guest improv teams are The General Washingtons and Counter-Productive Lover. Then, pH Productions takes the stage to perform a full set of any one of these improv forms: Bad Advice, Split Personality, Close Quarters or pHamily. It's BYOB!
joriefaith commented on Rhymes with Evil
This eerie, and a little depressing, tale is twisted and captivating. We were surprised by the turns in the story, which, goes without saying, is always better than a predictably boring play. The actors stayed true to their characters and packed emotion into this otherwise haunting storyline. The director did a good job of moving it along while really still maintaining the creepy-factor. We went into the play without knowing anything about it and definitely walked out spooked, with a lot to talk about.

The show was great. I really enjoyed the story and the acting is great! I will go again. What a great little room for a show like this! A must see!

I really like the PH shows I've seen. The musical is so amazing! They are a talented bunch. After seeing the musical my friends and I came back for the phrenzy show and had a ball. I think their shows are pretty unique. You should check them out.

I've been to all the improvisation theaters in Lakeview multiple times and pH takes the cake! iO, ComedySportz, The Playground - you name it, I've seen it. pH's new space at Studio Be is very sleek and accommodating. It's nice that they now have 8pm shows to compliment their Midnights. There's a lot of strong talent in the group and to think that they run the whole team on their own is mind blowing! I'd say check it out if you're looking for something to do Thrus- Sat.

In a city that is not only saturated in improv comedy, but overloaded with talented funny people, pH always brings a fresh dose of things to laugh at. I have seen pHrenzy quite a bit, and the thing I love about it the most is when the comedy is so fast that you don't have time to keep up between the scenes and the laughter. I've paid money for nearly every comedy venue there is in this city. $10, plus byob, plus funny people (Who do this for free I discovered!) is a perfect combo for a weekend night of comedy. I will go back many times again. And my friends continue with me. We Love pH!!!

cdlyons: maybe you just caught a bad show. i went last week to a phrenzy PG (though i use that term loosely!) and i couldn't stop laughing. i won't try to explain the situation in full because i can't recreate it properly, but the guy playing the austrian baker on the "el" who couldn't find a seat had me cracking up even after i left the show. well done!

My father was in town from Texas and wanted to see some local comedy. I didn't know what to expect but in the end I was blown away. Great satire mixed with general goofiness creating a strong show full of laughs and thought. I've since gone back with my girl friend and she found it as enjoyable as I did although the stand up act was not as good as the week I saw them with my dad. Every week is different but the two times I saw them they were consistent and funny. Great stuff and I highly recommend the show.

I went on a date to see this show Sat. night and it went great! I wasn't sure what to expect. She just kept insisting that I don't make her "get up on stage" but by the end of the night she was yelling out suggestions louder than anyone. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! We almost stayed for the next show, but got too hungry. (Sorry, guys!) But the show was awesome!
