Briar Street Theatre
Formerly the stable for Marshall Field's horses, this beautifully designed, 300-seat theater offers excellent sight lines, fine acoustics and unexpected intimacy, plus the air conditioning required by a Chicago summer. Run by Fox Theatricals, it has hosted several long-running shows ("Driving Miss Daisy," "Laughter on the 21st Floor," "Having Our Say," "Jackie Mason: Politically Incorrect") and Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," as well as concerts by Barbara Cook and transfer shows from other theaters. Its most ambitious transformation: housing the tentacle-like tubes and gadgetry for Blue Man Group's long-running spectacle.
