Poetry and cross-cultural literary events take place at the Chopin Theatre, located a few blocks away at Milwaukee Avenue and Division Street. This is an office space only.

The non-profit "literary arts center," now entering its 16th year, holds poetry-related events most Wednesday nights. Eleven years ago, Pulitzer Prize winner Gwendolyn Brooks suggested giving away a $500 poetry prize, so The Guild Complex started the Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mike Award, held the last Wednesday of June. Other annual events include a winter Musicality of Poetry Festival, with poets reading to jazz and world beat accompaniment; Word Gourmet featuring Nina Corwin's signature "word jam," and more. Workshops, such as "Poetry of Knitting" and "Click to Enter: Women and New Media," are held bi-annually.
