Since 1983, this has been the place to sample original musicals created by the New Tuners Workshop ("Fat Tuesday, The Mardi Gras Musical," "A Change in the Heir," "Nightingale," "Charlie's Oasis Museum and Bar"), plus samples of workshopped musicals ("Stages 97"). Run by Ruth Higgins, who helped to carve the three-stage Theatre Building out of a former chocolate factory more than 20 years ago, this resident company has a strong track record of showcasing burgeoning talents: singing, acting, writing and directing. Their annual holiday success is a musical version of "Hans Brinker" that continues to delight young and old. The venue's three busy theaters are comfortable, air-conditioned, easy to see and hear in.
