Formerly located nearby in the basement of the local public library, the well-established Illinois Theatre Center moved uptown in 1999. The new $250,000 venue is in the heart of the old Park Forest shopping center, which is evolving into an "arts mall" (in fact, an art gallery is located next to the theater). The ITC's glassy facade leads to a spacious, well decorated lobby. The auditorium accommodates about the same number of patrons as the old location, but the new proscenium stage is much larger -- opening new possibilities to artistic leaders Etel Billig and her son, Jonathan. Upgraded amenities include two large washrooms and a reception area called The Green Room. A few cafes are nearby.
