In December 1997, a disastrous fire struck and closed the company's Firehouse space at 1625 N. Damen Ave.
Company artistic director Ramirez immediately promised to rebuild the facility.Latino Chicago has premiered works by playwright-in-residence Migdalia Cruz ("Fur," "Lolita de Lares," "Miriam's Flowers") and by Puerto Rican playwright Edwin Sanchez ("Dona Sol and Her Trained Dog"). Under the stewardship of Juan Ramirez, the company has offered such probing plays as "Bitter Homes and Gardens," "Prospect" and the incandescent "Lucy Loves Me," with scripts that have introduced growing audiences to exciting new voices.
