Chicago's hallowed online T-shirt cooperative, Threadless, opened its own Lakeview storefront in September 2007. This is no ordinary store: The screenprint designs stocked here have picked by the 500,000-plus fans that vote in a weekly election on Threadless.com. Majority rules, and each week, seven new designs (as well as two resurrected from past runs) arrive hot off the press, a full day before they are available to the rest of the world on the website.
Head downstairs to the showroom, which looks more like an art gallery for T-shirts than a retail store; for any design you see, you can read a tidbit about the designer who created it. Upstairs, you'll find a gallery showcasing past artist's work, as well as portable workstations for courses in web design or Photoshop hosted by Digital Bootcamp. Tree huggers and/or bargain hunters take note: Bring back your reusable Threadless shopping bag for $1 off each purchase.

- No. Entrance to front landing is wheelchair accessible, but no access to downstairs showroom or upstairs gallery. Staffers will accommodate shoppers from the front landing if necessary.
