This is the first U.S. outpost of this German tea merchant, which began as a tiny shop in Trier, Germany in 1978, and is now a global chain. Look for 300 varieties of loose-leaf teas, all rated for quality (low to high with corresponding price points (from $2.20-$35) with choices like black, green, oolong, white, rooibush (redbush), herbal and fruit. The shop conveniently has a "book of tea" on-hand (it's free), with detailed explanations of each product and well-trained staffers are happy to offer suggestions. Other tea-related products include glass, ceramic, and porcelain teapots, tableware, teapot warmers and candles and filters. So what's up with the hard to pronounce name? It's "tea" merged with the last name of founder Albert Gschwendner (it's pronounced tea-GESH-wend-ner).
