Years before Southport became the boutique hotbed that it is now, long-time neighborhood resident Jennifer Crotty opened She One in October 2000. Her small boutique seems a lot like a big closet stocked with tops, bottoms and dresses from staple brands such as Free People, Tulle, Kensie and Sweet Pea. Newer lines like Pure and Simple feature basics with a twist, like cotton skirts with foldable waistbands for a super-reasonable $50. Crotty sees her target customer as "the woman who wants to look good without buying $400 pants," she says. And considering the high-end shops that have popped up on this street in the years since She One has opened, we're grateful (and amazed) that the pricetags here still remain among the lowest on the strip.

Jewelry here is limited mostly to local designers, such as simple necklaces by Jess LC, Juliet Jewelry's mid-priced line and and vegan leather handbags by Shiraleah. Need an opinion? Crotty is almost always manning the shop, and happily doles out advice on what pieces will complement your figure. She also carries -- and swears by -- super-popular, panty line-free boy-cut shorts by Honeydew Intimates, and for a (good) reason: "I hate thongs," she says.
