Think books, books and more books and you should be able to imagine just a fraction of the material in the Seminary Co-op Bookstore. It is located in the basement of the Chicago Theological Seminary on the University of Chicago's campus. Founded by students, this co-operative bookstore which offers new books has a national reputation for the depth of its inventory. Featuring what is considered to be the best selection of academic books in the country, the Co-op carries more than 100,000 titles in the humanities and social sciences. The Seminary Co-op Bookstore is a claustrophobic's nightmare but a book lover's delight. And it wouldn't be misleading to advertise the bookstore as a human maze--ceilings are so low in some places that tennis balls cover the knobs of pipes to prevent head injury. Anyone may join the co-op by purchasing three $10 shares of stock; more than 35,000 have jumped on board. But all are welcome to shop at the bookstore. Membership benefits include 10 percent discount on purchases, a share in the earnings, the opportunity to special order any book in print, and to buy through mail. Also, author readings and events for children are offered.
