Ford City Mall is not just another shopping center. It has quite a history. From being a war supplies plant during World War II, to the Tucker Automobile Plant, to the shopping center it is today, Ford City Mall is an important part of Ashburn's history. Today's Ford City is filled with more than 150 stores such as Foot Locker and Victoria's Secret, along with anchor department stores Carson Pirie Scott, Sears and JC Penney. It is an ever-changing environment. One of the most entertaining features of the mall is the working carousel. Children clamor for a ride on one of the horses. The mall is also a great place to get exercise and just "walking the mall" is a pleasure for some. There is a 14-theater movie complex and a large food court that includes Dunkin' Donuts, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's and Taco Bell, as well as small specialty food places. There is a free club for children up to age 12called City Kids Club; children can participate in arts and crafts, environmental and educational events and activities.
