Wicker Park-based jewelry designer Johansson thinks of her bold, one-of-a-kind baubles as miniature sculpture. Her creations range from eye-catching agate pendants (pictured) to wispy wire earrings carefully hand-formed from oxidized silver.

First design attempt: Turning a refrigerator box into a play kitchen, complete with skylights, windows and marker-drawn curtains, circa 7 years old

Cost: $25 and up for earrings, $60-plus for necklaces and up to $375 for 14-karat gold designs
