Animal Kingdom is the oldest pet care center in Chicago. Pet owners were allowed to bring their pets into the store long before it was the fashionable thing to do at the newer, chain stores. This store's outside entrance is covered with a colorful mural of animals. Inside is a "free zoo." According to general manager Steve Maciontek, "Animal Kingdom is probably the only store in Chicago to have an African leopard and rhinoceros hornbill (it's like a toucan) on the premises. There's also Chico the monkey.'' The pet supplies and the fish for sale are in the front part of the store, while the pets (puppies, kittens, hamsters, rabbits) for sale and the large animals for viewing are located in the back.
