Patel Brothers is the Indian equivalent of a major chain grocery store, with outlets nationwide serving Asian Indian communities (the original Patel Brothers opened on Devon Avenue in 1974). The store features the signature Swad brand, and includes a large selection of ready-to-eat and frozen foods. Dry goods include several dals, (the generic term for dried legumes, including peas, beans and lentils), flours and a variety of rice. Chutneys, pickles, spices, fruit purees and other items essential for Indian cooking line the aisles.
