Penelope's tag line is "modern living for men and women," but to us, it's more like an indie, designer version of Urban Outfitters, before it spawned suburban mall cookie-cutter copies. The vibe is retro and quirky, with a checkered tile floor, a vinyl couch propped in front of the dressing rooms and blue zig-zags painted across the wall. Expect earthy, hip pieces from brands such as Built by Wendy, APC and Dunderdon. Accessories range from sporty Freitag messenger bags to bright Dolce Vita ballet flats. There's plenty of hipster-worthy T-shirts with personality, jewelry from local designer Lulu and the offbeat accessory -- like plates and sporks made of bamboo -- scattered here and there.
