The Book Cellar

This Lincoln Square bookstore is known for pairing wine with books, but the third part of this unique combination is community. Staffers are well-read, taping hand-written commentary below recommended books and leading store book groups once a month. A local author reads on the third Wednesday of each month and children’s story time is every Friday morning at 11 a.m. The inviting atmosphere, beckoning visitors with new book displays at the entrance, parts two ways, fluidly dividing the space into café and bookstore. A window nook furnished with oversized plush chairs provides the perfect space for reading or discussion, while the small dining area allows a slightly more formal experience. This independent business specializes in its own kind: fine wines from small-scale producers, snacks from Delightful Pastries and other local spots, and a healthy selection of books published by universities and independent presses.
