ComedySportz Chicago is hosting special events every weekend this September as part of its "25yearz" celebration with four weeks of charitable giving. The shows, in partnership with local non-profit organizations, will raise funds and build awareness for several causes, including poverty, lymphoma and hospitalized children.
"Over our 25 years, we've seen how the joy, imagination and laughter that come from improv comedy make people’s lives better," Matt Elwell, ComedySportz president and CEO, said. "We're so grateful for the support we've received in this community that we wanted to help other organizations that make Lakeview and the world better places to live."
From Sept. 13 to Sept. 15, the comedy club is partnering with the performers of Funny Bones Improv, a group that brings laughter to sick children and their families in hospitals throughout Chicago.
The shows from Sept. 20 to Sept. 22 are benefiting the Lymphoma Research Foundation, in support of its research efforts, education and other services for those suffering from lymphoma. The event is in remembrance of longtime ComedySportz performer, Mike Enriquez, who succumbed to the disease last January.
During the concluding weekend of its “25yearz” celebration, ComedySportz is featuring shows to commemorate Sam Thompson and his lifelong battle against cystic fibrosis. Sam, the brother of ComedySportz ensemble member Zach Thompson, passed away on June 7. The shows from Sept. 27 to Sept. 28 are benefiting The Sam Thompson Foundation, which was set up to help the family defray the medical expenses incurred during his fight against the disease.
