Mistwood Golf Club executive chef Jim Shamet has opened a new barbeque sports bar in Bolingbrook at 730 N. Bolingbrook Drive. McQ's stands out from the rest by using two types of hardwood for its in-house smoker and keeping to the regional obsessions with sports via the menu.
"Pulling from the sports aspect of the bar, I've been constantly trying to make specials for the menu that are centered around local sports teams and events," Shamet said.
McQ's Sports Bar offers burgers, along with smoked items such as chicken, pork, brisket and ribs. These various meats are dry rubbed then smoked in McQ's in-house smoker over two different types of hardwood, adding a distinct smoky taste and making it different from the crowd.
"Obviously the brisket is one of the feature items, but the whole bar menu is encompassed by and infused with smoke,” said Shamet, head chef of McQ's. “The smoked tomatoes for the house-made salsa are particularly spectacular."
In addition to the salsa, McQ's Sports Bar offers a variety of homemade sauces, including Carolina, Kansas City, Asian, Spicy Texas and Mango Habanero. If that doesn't get the stomach pining for delicious barbecue fare, then a constant injection of new items to the menu should. Coming this winter, McQ's will be featuring fresh soups of the day.
With over 18 years of professional experience in the kitchen, Shamet has won the Silver Plate award at George Jewel Catering, and his experience cooking for the Cubs, Bears, White Sox and Bulls, along with other professional sports teams and even a celebrity or five, will make this sports bar a rare breed indeed.
