Mythos
2030 W. Montrose Ave. - Chicago773-334-2000
I went last night to Mythos to celebrate my friends' birthdays (there was 20 of us). We had everything brought out family style from tzatziki, spanakopita, pastichio. baby lamb chops, chicken skewers to birthday cake! Toni made us feel right at home and made sure everyone had enough to eat. I'll definitely be back soon!
Report This ReviewI consider myself a bit of a "foodie" and this restaurant by far is my favorite in Chicago. Between the warm staff (Toni the owner) as well as the atmosphere and food...it's by far quite a pleasurable experience. I try to go at least every other week and everyone I've introduced this restaurant too raves about it and goes back on their own. I plan on having my birthday dinner with a group of 30 this weekend and can hardly wait! The portions are perfect, high quality and after going to UIC and visiting the Halsted Greek restaurants for 5 years...this by far surpasses them in terms of quality and authenticity. A MUST!!!!
Report This ReviewI was very disappointed with the meal and restaurant!!! It was over-priced and the food was totally mediocre. Greek food is my favorite but this place should definitely be passed up!!! I had the lamb which was barely there at all (mostly bone) and not much flavor. The lemon drop soup was watery and wasn't worth even the $3 we paid for it. The only thing we liked was the bread which didn't compensate for the meal. Too Bad!!!
Report This ReviewI have read all of the reviews for Mythos and there seems to be a general consensus that it is slow. Guess what? If you want quality food, then you are going to wait. This restaurant puts many to shame and I almost peed myself when people suggested going to Greektown...enjoy your gyro Mr. Impatient! My boyfriend and I have been to Mythos twice; once when it first opened and second just recently. Both times we left completely full, satisfied, and a little buzzed. Both times we received VIP treatment from the owner and the wait staff, and the most recent time we got to meet and talk to the cook/kitchen master. Everything is seasoned perfectly and the meat just melts in your mouth. You pay for what you get, so stop complaining about the prices. This is not a restaurant that you go to every night or if you are in a hurry. My suggestion is to pick up some wine, grab some friends, and actually enjoy and savor your meal. The food is portioned just right so you don't walk out feeling like a sloth. Oh yeah, restaurants that serve fresh, never frozen food (and some food that takes hours to prepare) will run out of things. Yeah it's disappointing, but now you have something to look forward to next time because it they are out, obviously it's good. Everyone and their mom should go to this restaurant, but you be the judge for yourself...
Report This ReviewI went with my boyfriend, who is 100% Greek and cooks/eats authentic Greek cuisine everyday. Not only was I impressed, but he was very impressed by the food and its authenticity. Everything tasted fresh and was made to order. Service was excellent, very attentive and gave personal suggestions about food selections. Only one of the owners was there, but she was wonderful and also very attentive, checking in on our meal throughout. BYOB is also a great perk. The atmosphere inside is charming, no cheesy "Greek paraphanalia" covering the walls and there is outdoor seating available. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for great Greek food outside of Greektown.
Report This ReviewLoved the place since my first visit and have recommended to numerous friends since .... I am not one to review nor write reviews of places but felt people reading Metro Mix reviews of this place should know that ......... the negative things I've seen here must be from people who want to see a circus instead of eating well prepared and authenic food ........ from the great host to the kitchen ..... was made to feel like I was eating with family ...... simple and wonderful is the best way to express it .....
Report This ReviewThe former Eastern European restaurant was converted to a high-end Greek restaurant. After opening in January, my wife and I walked past it a couple of times and saw a very busy restaurant. On a recent Friday, we decided to give it a try. As a BYOB restaurant, I was happy to see this, but the prices on the menu threw me off ($28 for lamb chops?). Plus, outside of lamb chops, there were a few dishes that they were "out" from the menu. Being it was 7pm, I was wondering "how can you be out on a Friday before the weekend"? After reading a few reviews, it sounds like either they don't stock up or only serve a couple of portions. Either way, I decided to try the braised lamb (they were out) and settled for the Ground beef on rice. I could not believe it, but the Ground Beef ball wasn't even fully cooked....The timing was not good either. It took about 50-60 minutes between appetizer and dinner. The couple next to us was also impatient as they said they were waiting about an hour from the point of sitting until their meal. I'll give this restaurant a try again, and hopefully they won't be out of Braised Lamb, but note, allocate a lot of time to eat here.
Report This ReviewAfter reading the wildly wonderful reviews of this restaurant, we were certainly looking forward to dinner. We were greeted at the door by the hostess/owner. She was charming and seated us immediately. So far, so good.
The first sign of a problem was in perusing the menu to find almost no lamb dishes. This is a Greek restaurant, right?
We order shrimp and the chicken reganata, but were warned by the waiter that it might take up to an hour to get the chicken dish tonight so we switched to the filet stuffed with feta. Did we want the feta stuffed or on the side, the waiter asked. Stuffed, we said. As it is described on the menu.
He brought bread. It was good -- nice and chewy -- and he oped our wine. Then we waited. And waited.
After about a half hour he brought our taramasalata -- must have taken a long time to spoon it into the dish. It was quite ordinary. A grilled octopus appetizer was fine.
Then we waited again. And waited. And waited. No word from the waiter. After an hour (no kidding) he brought our entrees. The shrimp dish consisted of 4 shrimp swimming in a red sauce and a pile of white rice. The stuffed filet consisted of four meat balls -- with the feta on the side. The chef hurt his finger, explained the waiter and couldn't stuff the feta. No one else in the kitchen?
Then we waited another 20 minutes to get our check. We had to get up and put our coats on before it came.
Greektown looks like a much better option!
Report This ReviewWe showed up early with no people in the restaurant, and the hostess seemed frazzled that we did not have a reservation. Menu seemed comprehensive, but for the prices we expected much larger portions. The preparations were poorly seasoned, lacking flavour overall, and were priced more for Michigan Ave than Montrose Ave. Dessert was disappointing and they used Hershey's chocolate sauce as garnish. For a restaurant that is trying to be upscale, the bite simply doesn't match the bark. Avoid.
Report This ReviewI have dined numerous times and found the food to be excellent and the service fantastic. Waiters are attentive and they will take care of any and all dietary restictions. I am glad to see a greek/mediteranian restaurant in the neighborhood that is really good. The other greek/mediteranian restaurants in the neighborhood have always been disappointing and extremely blan.
I find the pricing to be in line with the portions served; and you cannot beat the $5.00 cork fee. Finally, I find the owners to welcome their patrons with open arms, just as you would find in Greece!
