Ate here last night with my family visiting from out of town and was pretty disappointed. The extensive menu and nice decor were promising. However, I couldn't help thinking that the Lao in name refers to the old school excessive use of MSG. My husband wasn't feeling well by the end of the meal. They have an impressive long menu, but I agree with the previous poster that there is more marketing buzz than excellent cooking going on here.

I am from the northeast of China and I think the food in Lao beijing is really bad. The service is also bad. We made a reservation for 6 people but when we arrived there, they said we have to wait. I don't really know what reservation means in lao beijing. I think the owner is good at advertising, but not the food or the service.
