Great Lincoln Square addition!

Went to Jack Rabbit on a Friday night; luckily had a reservation as all the tables were full. We shared the chile dusted calamari, which was very tasty but not very spicy. I had the shrimp dish--shrimp were very flavorful, the polenta good and crispy, and the coleslaw very good. My husband's dinner was not so great---the fish was a bit overcooked, and the mashed potatoes were just okay. The sauteed spinach was very good though. We'll likely go back.

Good Restaurant in the Area (Lincoln Square)
By JB Griggs from Lincoln Square, May 6, 2008

This place is a nice spot in the Lincoln Square area. My wife and I enjoyed the shrimp ceviche. In addition, we enjoyed our tenderloin (wrapped in bacon) and I had the ribs (a little kick to it). The drinks menu was a little limited, but I still had a cocktail and thought that the prices were very reasonable. Overall, I thought this restaurant had the feel of a River North restaurant, but was situated in our little neighborhood. I think people should note that Southwestern themed restaurants does not equal Mexican food......I didn't think I would need to clarify that, but it seems that there has been some major confusion in previous reviews.

Professionalism of this Operation Needs Tweaking

We waited some time upon restaurant entry to be met and directed to a table though the restaurant essentially empty. I had to ask another diner for direction as to if it was a seat yourself/be seated restaurant as I was feeling a bit foolish just standing there when there were so many open tables. Once seated by a nice server, I noticed that the man who had been sitting just 2 feet away from us at the entry bar area (where I was expressing my confusion to the other dine)r to now be standing behind the bar. I assume he was either the owner or a manager (not a bartender) but obviously felt it to be above his role to address a customer's inquiry and confusion.

Our server was pleasant, respectful, but very tentative in approaching the table/us as customers. Menus were just placed on the table. No attempt at all was extended to describe/highlight the evening specials, house cocktails, or the menu.

Drinks and Food
The margaritas are small, be advised that the special house margarias pom and blood read tangerine are both very syrupy sweet. All margarias are overpriced.
The appetizers of nachos with pork and shrimp ceviche were outstanding
The steak fajitas were more like a french wine/herb sauteed beef with only onions and we would not recommend if you truly love a seared/sizzling with vegtables fajita.
The chipolte ribs had a nice flavor but chewy pork so depends how you like your ribs.
The sides had nice flavor/spice but when eating spice it is sometimes nice to have a more calm/less spicey side dish to compliment the heat

Lastly, the music is excellent but was way too loud in an empty space. They should adjust accordingly so as to assure diners can hear each other speak.

I will try again, especially the appetizers maybe with another drink, but Jack Rabbit needs to up the professionalism of service and manager involvement (the primadonna attitude and customer disengagement) and consider a 10% price reduction overall.

No Frozen fake margaritas here!! They have the best ever margaritas with a homemade base, very addictive. The food is awesome, have been there many times and not had anything I haven't liked. The staff is friendly and speedy!!

My fiancée and I ate there a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed the food and margaritas. The Service was good – friendly, fast, and courteous. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a cozy atmosphere and tasty southwestern (non traditional) Mexican food. We called ahead to make reservations.

Not worth the price

Some friends and I went to this place last week and I was looking forward to it. I like trying new places. This place turned out to be a huge disappointment. The decor was lovely and the staff were very nice but the food was very disappointing. I ordered the chili burger. The description was great and I expected to get a very flavorful burger but the fries ended up having more flavor than the burger itself. I also ordered a margarita and for $8 was expecting a nice size glass. What I received instead was a glass a little bigger than a rocks glass. The drinks were way overpriced. Another person got a pork dish that ended up being really greasy. Overall, while the staff was very friendly, I would not go back. The food was bland and the drinks overpriced.

No Iced Tea
No frozen margaritas
Bad Service
The Enchiladas were cold in the center and tasted as if they had come out of a box!

Need I say more? Save your money and go somewhere else.

Excellent Little Resturant!

This place is so cute, Great Food! Great Cocktails! They have a green chili burger that might be the best burger I have ever eaten in the city! Dynamite skirt steak fajitas too! I highly recomment this little gem. They take reservations so I would go that route if its a dinner time.
The owners are warm and both came to our table a couple of times. Must visit.

Cute, Bright, but Wanted More
By Jill from Albany Park, March 8, 2008

My husband and I went there for an early dinner one night last week. The inside is super cute...alot of bright colors and I love the tiling on the bar. A very happy ambiance which made me think of a recent trip to Mexico more than the southwest. He had their signature Jack Rabbit cocktail which was a bit heavy in the vodka content and I had their blood orange/raspberry margarita which was like juice. The guacamole was excellent but their salsa wasn't as impressive. I was shocked that my goat cheese enchiladas were deep fried like mini taquitos. Didn't expect that at all! He had the chicken fajitas and thought they were tasty and the right amount of food for the price. Would we go back? Maybe, but it definitely wouldn't be our first choice in the neighborhood.

High priced Mexican Food
By Jesse J from West Loop, March 6, 2008

We also read about Jack Rabbit on Metromix. Cozy place in a great location in the heart of Lincoln Square but the food was very mediocre. Typical Mexican cuisine with just a very tiny twist but not substantial enough for it's price. The service was good and the drinks were phenomenal but not sure if I'd go back.
