Flaco's Tacos
- Neighborhood: South Loop
- 725 S. Dearborn St.
- Chicago, IL 60605-1837
The folks behind Hackney’s Printer’s Row are opening a Mexican spot, just a few doors north of their burger-friendly South Loop eatery this summer. Although Flaco’s (which translates to “skinny”) is a quick-serve, this spot will be a bit fancier than your average taqueria; they’re keeping the building’s original maple and pine floors (since they were installed in 1910 they already look aged), plus they’re using re-purposed doors as wainscoting and adding arty flourishes like backlit punched copper. The menu features tacos (fish, steak, pork, veggie), plus other choices such as burritos, quesadillas and tortas (Mexican sandwiches). This spot should be popular with college students since it’s close to the University Center (aka the “mega-dorm”), but we’re predicting locals will go loco for the cheap tacos (most of 'em are around $2). Target opening date: early August
