El Pollo Loco, which started as a roadside chicken stand in Guasave, Mexico in 1975, specializes in citrus, herb and spice-marinated flame-grilled chicken. The hand-cut chicken is served with warm tortillas and side dishes like barbecued black beans and Spanish rice. Pollo also offers a salsa bar with a variety of choices including chipotle and avocado versions. Other menu choices include grilled burritos, quesadillas and salads. The Uptown location is the second in the city of Chicago (the first is in Logan Square).
