Chiu Quon Bakery
- Neighborhood: Uptown
- 1127 W. Argyle St.
- Chicago, IL 60640
- 773-907-8888
- Price range: $ (Under $9)
This small Argyle Street bakery, a sister spot to Chinatown's Chiu Quon Bakery and Cafe, serves a mind-boggling array of cookies, pastries, steamed and baked buns, and other Chinese goodies. The filled buns are among the best in town (try the barbecue pork or the pork and cabbage) and super cheap to boot. For a real sweet treat, try one of the fried sesame balls filled with red bean paste, or jin dui. If you're feeling overwhelmed and it's not too busy, the staff will help you out with unfamiliar items in the huge pastry case, which occupies almost half of the no-frills storefront space. Otherwise, just take your chances and point--it's hard to go wrong.
