on monday my older sis. and i took my younger sis. to CHCW for her birthday. We walked in to the place the host had a little attitude like he didn't want to be there. As soon as we were seated our server came to our table. Her name was Shanice. she was very nice. the service was excellant our food came under 10 minutes. Shanice and a male server brought our food out. I ordered the chicken and waffles. the food was excellant. The prices are very reasonible. The music was jazz and it added to the experience. We are going back.

A little slice of heaven

We really enjoyed our experience here. We only waited a few minutes as we preferred a booth. Everyone was friendly and genuinely hospitable, from the host to the kitchen staff that brought the food. And the chicken was fantastic. We both got the chicken and waffle plates... and barely had room for greens (which were well prepared). The waffles were, well, waffles. I grew up in New England and waffles served with anything but maple syrup is a crime. Next time, I'll pass on the waffles and get some of the soul food sides.

Good Food and Location!

I have nothing against the restaurant but I just think Chicken & Waffles eateries should just stay under the Roscoe's name. However, there is the comparison between the Chicago location and the Los Angeles one. The menu and the noted dishes are the same. So if you are into the entree of chicken and waffles, definitely visit this place. But please pay respect to the King of them all, Roscoe's, in California.

I love this place, everything about it was on point- the service, the food, the ambience, the music, the price, we had a short wait, but it was well worth it. I will be back and I suggest everyone try it, you won't be disappointed.

A Great Find Overall!!

My family and I were leaving the Bud Biliken Parade and everyone was starving. We had noticed the restaurant on our walk to the Parade that morning and decided to stop in. The atmosphere was calming after leaving the chaos of the Parade. The hostess seated us immediately at a booth near the kitchen. The booths were so private we never noticed the hustle/bustle of the wait staff. We loved the setting - rich warm color on textured walls with dark wood palm ceiling fans, chocolate brown lacquered tables and deep oversized windows decorated with large exotic silk floral arrangements provided a glimpse of an evolving neighborhood.
When our food arrived, a short time later, we were pleasantly pleased with the portions! Our 14yr old ordered the Turkey Burger adorned generously with seasoned fries. My husband, our two little ones, and I ordered breakfast. Everyone's meal was hot and smelled divine. The grits were creamy which was a pleasant change from most breakfast restaurants. The chicken was unbelieveable and the waffles were light and flavorful (perfect hint of vanilla). We have vowed to return soon - without the children of course! Note: By the time we left, there was a line of anxious patrons waiting patiently to be seated.
Note: I personally think the size of this location is perfect! Obviously there is a demand for what they offering consumers... making the place bigger doesn't guarantee a packed house as much as a larger utility bill! They should explore extending hours during the work week to 7am for people wanting to grab and go. Overall, this was a great find and we'll be back!!!

Some friends and I went here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The food was amazing! We all cleaned out plates. We didn't have to wait long for a table, about 30 mins. Our waitress was warm and friendly and suggested some great meals. If you're looking for great tasting soul food this place won't dissapoint. The mac and cheese is to die for. I'll be back!

EXCELLENT food...OK service
By KeithHarrison from South Shore, July 8, 2008

My wife and I have been here twice, and the food is EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!...both times! I'll give you a run-down of our experiences during both visits as they are quite different.

Visit 1- Hostess was a bit rude. Waiter was nice, but too busy to be attentive to our needs. The food came out fast, which was a relief after the 15 minute wait. And boy was it delicious!!!

Visit 2- An issue with the sewer line into the building turned the place into take-out orders only (temporarily) as there was no working restroom. The hostess handled the situation beautifully. She advised us as we entered of the problem, offered us a menu, asked us to order at the take-out line, and said that we could have a seat to eat our meal. But w/out a working restaurant, they weren't able to offer full table service. We were fine with that, ordered our food, and sat down to eat. The owner came to our table and was very apologetic about the situation. He explained that he was called back from his vacation in L.A. to deal with the emergency. We told him that we've dined there beofre and certainly understood. He said, "Good. Then you know that we normally do better than this". My wife and I were impressed that the owner walked the floor and apologized to each customer personally. Even out of to-go containers, the food came out fast and was DELICIOUS again!

Despite the issues, I felt that the service was better during the 2nd visit. Once the plumbing issue is resolved and they get back to being a full service restaurant, I hope the service doesn't revert to what we experienced during the first vist. But I'm sure it will.
