Good Experience, Great FroYo

Shortly after entering Berry Chill yesterday, a salesperson asked if this was my first visit. "Yes," I said. He quickly assembled a sample cup filled with a good portion of the four flavors available, complete with a color-changing spoon. I liked them all and got a large Original w/strawberries, bananas and M&H chocolate banana granola to go. When they accidentally put my toppings on top instead of in a separate container like I'd asked, they offered me both, which was great because I was sharing with friends. But I wish I hadn't. I wanted to eat it all. Every day.

Horrible

If Metromix would let me I would put zero stars. I have been to Berry Chill twice and the positive reviews must have been written by employees or owners. I went the day they opened and couldn't believe my tastebuds. It was the most bitter thing I have ever put in my mouth. The best thing about it was the Golden Grahams cereal I had as topping. I decided to give it another shot thinking that maybe the yougurt I had was from a bad batch or something. The second time was just as bad. I live in the building and I always see people walking down the street with their Berry Chill in their hands and a sour look on their face. Don't waste your money or your time standing in line.

berry chill, good but not as good as pinkberry
By eric from south loop, July 8, 2008

pinkberry yogurt is less tart, has a sweeter, ice cream taste to it. pinkberry puts toppings more generously wih every order. also, their containers can hold toppings better than the cheap looking clear containers that berry chill uses.
berry chill is a great alternative but unfortunately it doesn't quite measure up to the taste, quality, and overall look of pinkberry. Plus, berry chill does not have my fave flavor, which is green tea so that's a few points against your favor.

Pretty good.

It is true that the place can be a bit pricey, but I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. It does have a subltly different taste, but it is pretty good -- I think the original is the best, despite it costing a $1 less. Plus the fruit is all chopped fresh (not syrupy or canned) and they are pretty generous with the toppings. It would be expensive to get everyday, but it is a pretty healthy and good alternative to most other places.

Great Frozen Yogurt
By bamfromlbk from LBK, July 3, 2008

I tried the original flavor with fresh rasberries and mini choc chips. The yogurt is like a Greek yogurt that has been frozen. It had a smooth texture and was pleasantly tangy and not too sweet. It was perfectly refresing and tasty, the rasberries were fresh and the cho. chips were real chocolate. The combination was delicious. Expensive? Yeh, a bit. The employees were inefficient, obviously a lack of training and management problem that will hopefully get corrected before this place goes under.

RUN AWAY
By arronunderwood from Gold Coast, June 30, 2008

We were very excited to have some yogurt after dinner. However, we left with a bitter taste in our mouth. The yogurt(if you want to call it that) was horrible. We ordered chocholate and the orginal. Both tasted like sour milk and both were over priced. We laughed when we observed other customers facial gestures from eating the yogurt. So, if you want to have yogurt on a hot summmer...day...go to some other place and please....run away from Berry Chill.

Stay at home

Let me start by saying that I am a huge frozen yogurt and ice cream fan. Was excited to get a recommendation to visit this place. Atmosphere nice, and forgetting about the high price ($7) for a medium- and I do mean a medium- it seemed to be a good spot. UNTIL, I actually tried the chocolate (believe they called it Amaretto Chocolate)... It was awful. Think spoiled milk- that sweet, pungent, downright disgusting taste- yes, thats it. People remark about it tasting like "real yogurt". I have had real yogurt and this place tastes nothing like that. It didn't even have a HINT of chocolate and our entire group was unable to eat any of it. Recommendation: hit yourself over the head with a baseball bat before even THINKING about going here.

It is not supposed to taste like this

The decor is very nice, but the menu screen is distracting. I bought 4 smalls for my family. The chocolate was disgusting. My daughter who loves chocolate in any form refused to eat it. Mine was original flavor and it was very icy it should be creamier. Nice amount of toppings though. I liked the flavor of the plain but my husband prefers the TCBY type of yogurt. We tried another place in my husbands office called Simply Fresh cafe and juice bar on Randolph and Michigan and theirs is much better and creamier. They also have the TCBY type of yogurt so it's perfect to go if not everyone likes Tart.

Frustrating experience - Mediocre product
By Peter from Wicker Park, June 2, 2008

I became a Kefir fan with the arrival of Starfruit on Division. I work near Berry Chill and decided to go for a treat in the middle of the day. Upon arrival, I was nearly plowed over by a group of women that were vacating the line with the look of impatience on their faces. I know, now, why. Once in the batters box, I had my order in mind. There were what seemed like 15 people behind the counter. Only one of which was helping a customer. The rest were staring straight ahead. Finally able to catch the eye of one of the zombies, I asked if she would take my order. She replied but with little enthusiasm. The line process they have established here is the most inefficient system I've ever witnessed. It's maddening. The person taking your order sends the instruction via computer to one of the many Zanex people merely 5 feet away from her. They wait for the computer slip and only then do they start making your order. This, even when nobody else is in the place! The best part is, even though I was the only person in the place, the person constructing my order called out my name when she was finished! Not surprising, when I began to finally dig into my treat a few steps from the store, I discovered I had been given the WRONG flavor! If you want good kefir, and great service, go to Starfruit on Division. I don't work there, I swear. I just support good service. And hope they put Berry Chill out of business.

Eh

The tangy flavor was a distraction from the sweet toppings and it melted fast - and today is a cool day. If I go again, it will be because it's non-fat and somewhat sweet. I'd recommend fruit or granola toppings unless you just want an excuse to eat the toppings.
