A La Turka
- Neighborhood: Lakeview
- 3134 N. Lincoln Ave.
- Chicago, IL 60657
- 773-935-6101
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
This Lakeview spot has changed hands a couple of times, most recently in the fall of 2008, but the emphasis on traditional Turkish specialties remains constant. Must-try dishes include moussaka, lamb and beef shish kebab, and any of the house-made desserts. Vegetarians get more than a cursory nod with entrees such as eggplant a Turka (fresh eggplant stuffed with red and green peppers, onions and toasted almonds and topped with melted Turkish cheese) and a meat-free version of moussaka. Most of the seating is at tables, but you can also sit on cushions, Turkish style, in the romantic, fabric-draped dining room. Belly dancers perform Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m.
