You call that breakfast?

I went to Sweet Maple today and had the worst breakfast ever. First of all the place is super small and you have to wait forever to get a seat, and for what? The food is totally not worth the wait and the decor is completely drab. The food is mediocre for the price... I mean come on 12 dollars for 2 pancakes? Get out of here! The service was horrible too, constantly talking to other customers for long periods of time forgetting about their tables, oh and not to mention seeing my server texting and talking on their cell phone. Overall very disappointed.

One of the best breakfast's spots in the city

Hands down one of my favorite spots. The omeletts, egg scrambles and biscuits are the best. Pancakes not so great. The fish and eggs only served on Friday is my favorite. Best time to go is a weekday morning to avoid crowds.

Why Wait???? So you can get to the GREAT!

OMG moment for real. It’s very small, which is the only draw back, but it’s very charming. I love the old style look and the breakfast I has was sooooo tasty. I had a lovely waitress who was more than familiar with the menu and everything was tidy. Aside from waiting to get into the place the service was quick. You can also go in to order take out. It’s a wait to get to great!

Best place in the city for breakfast
By Foody from Little Italy, April 18, 2008

We live in the neighborhood and make it a point to get up early on the weekends to have breakfast at Sweet Maple. In fact, I'm reluctant to recommend the place for fear that we'll have to get up even earlier to avoid the lines.

We've never, ever been disappointed in the food or the service. I think the egg white omlettes are the best I've had anywhere and the biscuits are fabulous. I'm also impressed with the quality of the fresh fruit during the off months. Every berry and melon piece is fresh and sweet. My husband always has the Taylor St Omlette and he also loves the grits.

Worth the wait-YES
By CL from Arlington Heights, February 4, 2008

Our family of 5 (adults) met here on Sunday for breakfast. We waited about 30 minutes in the cold weather, but the wait was definitely worth it. The food was DELICIOUS and a great value. The corned beef hash was wonderful. The service was fantastic and we were pleasantly surprised how quickly the food arrived especially considering it was very crowded. Our son who lives in the south loop will be frequenting this place often!
Suggestion: Go before 10am on Sunday.

Not worth the wait

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. After seeing a line waiting outside of the cafe for several weeks in a row I figured I was missing an amazing food experience. After waiting 30+ minutes one Sunday morning I must say that I'm VERY underwhelmed by the sweet maple cafe. The food is okay, but it's breakfast food... even I can't screw up toast and pancakes. It's priced moderately high (again, it's breakfast food which is normally cheap). There's a long wait and once inside it's crowded and has poor ambiance.

Fabulous

After a lackluster breakfast this morning, my deepest regret is that I did not brave the crowds at Sweet Maple. We had breakfast at Sweet Maple last Sunday and it was well worth the 40 minute wait. My wife and I both had eggs and we split a short stack of pancakes because other customers were raving. The verdict: awesome. First of all, the service was spot on. Our server was pleasant and perky and our coffee and water never made it down 2 inches. My corn beef hash was top notch. Fresh diced corn beef that tasted like it was prepared and cooked to order. My wife's omelette was cooked to perfection. The corn meal bisquits were to die for.

Finally, the pancake was everything they said. It was so sweet and perfect that it did not even need syrup. HOWEVER, the powdered sugar and REAL maple syrup were the perfect compliment.

Trust me, run back to this place. It is worh the wait!

I loved the food! The blueberry pancakes are to die for. It is a little pricy, my boyfriend and I spent $30 on breakfast and we had to wait about an hour before we were seated. But the food came out fast and it was delicious. It's definitely not something you can afford to do often, but try it at least once.

I HAD HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT THIS PLACE AND FINALLY WENT THERE WITH A FRIEND. IT WAS FANTASTIC! YES WE HAD TO WAIT A WHILE BUT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. THE HOME FRIES WERE THE BEST I'VE HAD ANYWHERE. THE PORTIONS WERE HUGE AND CERTAINLY JUSTIFIED THE PRICE. THE SERVERS WERE VERY NICE AND EFFICIENT. I'LL DEFINITELY BE BACK FOR MORE.
