I was interested in getting 15 mini cupcakes. Having never been to this place, I called in the morning the day before I wanted the cupcakes explicitly stating what I wanted and whether it was possible within the desired time frame. I left my name and number. Their automated message indicated that orders aren't confirmed until a phone call back from them is received, fine that makes sense. Well, no call all day. I go to the store the next morning and am told that mini cupcakes are special orders and that I needed to place an order. Well, if I didn't hear back after even asking on the vm whether it was possible within in the given time frame, isn't that valid enough to lead me to believe that perhaps my order isn't large enough to place an order or that an order isn't necessary? Needless to say, it was disappointing. 2 things I learned - 1) mini cupcakes require an order and 2) vm's are unreliable and I need to be the micromanager who checks in.

Banana Bliss

I have heard about this place for a few years but had never tried it for fear of becoming an addict. Well, I gave in yesterday and finally went over there. It was a bear to park and so crowded in there I got pushed all over the place and it felt so chaotic I just wanted to get far away from there. But not without way too many items of course! I was told to get the double doozy and I felt like it was too sweet...I don't think I will get that again. Then I got a mini carrot cupcake, a red velvet, and a banana cupcake. At the last minute I saw this cute little banana bread with frosting in between so I threw that in for good measure. Now that banana bread and the banana cupcake were phenomonal! The perfect balance of sweet and mild and it just melted in my mouth in that scary way that makes you feel like it was never there. I have to say though, the carrot cupcake and red velvet did not measure up. the cream cheese frosting left something to be desired and I much prefer the ones at Bleeding Heart. All in all, I am glad that I don't live too close to there because I can already fell my butt getting bigger!

The BEST cupcakes!

This is by far my favorite place for cupcakes in Chicago. The vanilla cake and vanilla frosting cupcakes are the ones to try! They also have numerous other desserts! Sometimes I opt for the double doozy...a cookie/icing sandwich! YUM!

The Best
By Markey from Markey, June 3, 2008

This is the best bakery I have ever been to. I have been to many many many. I have talked to people who say it's better than legendary places like Magnolia in New York City. I have loved every single thing I have eaten from here. Great cupcakes. Normal size so you can actually eat it without getting sick. Super moist. Great icing. Simple and amazing. The orange one was amazing. Great cookies. The best cake I have ever had in my life. I once got one that was a yellow cake with a middle layer of banana chocolate chip cake and a chocolate buttercream icing. I still dream about it. One day I will special order one. It was the best baked good I have ever tasted.

these cupcakes-while not as good as magnolia's, but whose really are?- are really good. the service was great, the cupcakes are really well-priced (less than $2), and the atmosphere is everything you would expect from a bakery- cute and sweet.

Bad attitude!!

I went in to order a custom cake expecting to be treated nicely given all the good things I heard about this place. Not! I was the only customer in the store in the middle of the day and it took several minutes for someone to come and ask to help me. Then I got an attitude from the girl who came. She said she NEEDED to take down my order info without even talking to me as to what I want. So I gave her my order info, but I have a feeling she didn't really listen to what my order was. She then asked for my credit card (written out on the order sheet) to hold the order. Given all the ID theft issues recently, I was concerned and asked that my written credit card would be protected and she said in an joking but serious tone "Actually I'm going shopping for a Louis Vuitton bag with your credit card." What kind of response was that!! I'm going to cancel my order because I got even more upset about the experience after I left the place. Great customer service is utmost important in maintaining a respected establishment. BTW--the cupcakes weren't just OK.

I brought cupcakes to work today for a co-workers birthday and everyone has been raving about them all day! Friends from the burbs are willing to drive into the city just for a taste! Great job, Sweet Mandy B's!

Best cupcakes in the city, hands down. Also, price-wise compared to other bakeries around. If you go later on, you can sometimes receive free food that they would throw out.

liked the cupcakes, hated the attitude
By cupcake from Andersonville, November 27, 2007

I got some cupcakes here, and asked the teenage girl behind the counter if they could be frozen. Her answer was "I dont know?". When i told her I needed to know she said "well, they should be okay". I told her I was spending 15.00 on cupcakes and that someone should know if they freeze well. She didnt bother getting someone who actually knew the answer to my question, just shrugged it off. This girl behind the counter was acting as if her wealthy parents punished her and made her get a job at the local bakery to find out whats its like to actually work for a living. I liked the cupcakes, and I personally liked the frosting, but I was not impressed with the Lincoln Park attitude that went along with it. For the money the cupcakes need to be bigger.
