i went to southport grocery for breakfast for two of us and was told it was a 15 min wait i know reasonably that you have to kinda gage that based on experiance though if she said 45 min, i would have gone elsewhere , so after 45 min i go inside and ask, and was told another 10 mins so i left went to another place was sitting after ordering this would have been about an 11/2 hour wait at southport grocery and got a call that my table was ready.....i know what reasonable and not, all i asked for was a reasonable assesment so i could make other plans all i got was a lie.. so i won't go back....

So don't sit by the kitchen. And I swear He'll look you in the eye and keep on clammering those plates. I'm not saying he's doing anything with food on those plates- he's just drumming on them.
The pancakes are great. Plus they've got reeeal Maple Syrup. And this soupy egg omlette potato hotdoggy thing called the Hople Popple. Im I the only one who's not hip to this Hopple Popple Jive? Try the Hopple Popple - it will surprise you. Hopple my Popple!

I did not have a good experience here. Though we did not have to wait for a table, we had to wait a long time for our order to be taken and our food to be served. Once served, I was not impressed with the hash...the potato was hard, crunchy and oily. It was difficult to eat because it was served in a cereal bowl. No flavor. We had to ask for salt and pepper...and wait for it...and when we waited and waited, our neighbors at the next table gave us their S&P. Then we had to wait in a long line to pay at the counter. Tips are left in a large jar -- and I suspect that's why the service and food are not that great. The staff are sharing tips and it doesn't matter if the individuals offer good service or not. I love in the neighborhood and I would have liked to include this spot on my regular list...but I won't.

Charming spot with great fresh cooked food, great brunch selection is available all day. French toast layered with ham and cheese and bread pudding pancakes were both delicious. Small outdoor patio and specialty food market and deli top make this a great find!!

Carryout order - couple sandwiches and cupcakes. The cashier asked me "Tip on the card?" I often give a tip when picking up food, but....for him to ask for it on a carryout order is a bit aggressive / a bit presumptive. BTW - sandwiches weren't very good, but the cupcakes were the best we've ever tasted.

Tried Southport Grocery for the first time last week. I had one of the best burgers I've had in Wrigleyville. It also has a pretty good selection of high end grocery items and treats. I will definitely be back. I did not have any service problems. Our server recomended items off the menu, checked on us once, and asked if we needed any condiments. He was friendly and efficient, without hanging about too long.

The pancakes were chewy/undercooked and the service was bad. We asked for forks, coffee and our current waitress was busy so we asked another only to get attitude. I would from now on go across the street to Julius Mienl.

My friends and I chose to dine at Southport Grocery for brunch based on its positive reputation. However, I can easily say that I will not be a customer of Southport Grocery ever again. While the food itself was quite good, the service was abysmal. My friend was drinking her water, and the bottom of the glass broke off. (Don't they know not to fill a hot glass with cold water?) She was completely soaked in ice cold water, freezing and wet, and our waitress offered her...a cupcake? She's cold, wet, and you give her a cupcake? How about an apology? A discount on her food? A towel? All 3 of these things, my friend had to ask for. She was not offered a towel, she was only given an apology between giggles by the wait staff, and wasn't even offered a discount on her food, which was the LEAST they could have given her. She asked for it, and they did give her that much. Not only this, but our waitress then told us this happened before at the restaurant, and she was LAUGHING while telling us this story! I will not return to this cafe, no matter how good the food is. I can find another place for brunch with good food AND good service.

My husband and I were in search of something sweet and I remembered reading about this place. We ventured in and were intrigued by the assortment of gourmet food supplies which is pretty good. However, we ordered a chocolate chip cookie which was horrible, not mixed properly before baking so it was a crown of baked sugar and not miuch more. I ordered a yellow cupcake which was good. The cake was substantial and tasty, the frosting had a good vanilla buttercream taste. The coffe was okay, but the hot chocolate at over $2.00 was mostly foam and had a strange spice aftertaste instead of yummy chocolate. Very disappointing!!!!!!
