Signature Room at the 95th: User Reviews
Reasons to go to Signature Room: You are new to Chicago and want to see the view. Reasons NOT to go to Signature Room: The food is absolutely ordinary and way over priced......More importantly the SERVICE is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! IF YOU LIKE WAITING IN LINES AND BEING TREATED LIKE CATTLE THIS IS YOUR PLACE. THIS IS NOT REAL CHICAGO FOOD OR SERVICE......GO TO SKYDECK INSTEAD FOR THE VIEW>

This was the first time my husband and I ate at the Signature Room at the 95th. Wanted to for years and finally decided to splurge. Entering the restaurant takes you back to a fifties feeling but we liked it and felt it works. The views are amazing as you walk out of the elevator. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. We left feeling that the food, service and view were worth the pricey bill. Drinks are priced from $8 beers to $13 for a glass of wine. We had a very good cheese plate appetiser that could have been improved by providing an assortment of crackers. I wanted to try their lobster bisque but just could not talk myself into spending the excessive $10 for a small bowl of soup. Our entrees of pork tenderloin($30) and filet of steak($40) were excellent. They were both cooked perfectly and accompanied with outstanding sauces. Side dish choices were alacarte and enough for two to share. Yes, we left with a pricey bill of $120. We never spend this much while eating out. However, this was a special two hour celebration seated by the window overlooking our beautiful City of Chicago.

The view from here is awesome. Service was below par for the $$$. Food was really good. Martini's are pricy. Would go back, but only to take someone that has never seen the city from above.

We were shopping on Michigan avenue and decided to stop in for a quick bite, before our show (Jersey boys...GREAT BTW) so I thought, what better than the Signature room. THey HAD a great buffet and for the money it was the best deal downtown. Upon my arirval and to my dismay the buffet was discontinued. I was informed there was a new combo menu to choose from so we decided to stay and try it. Not bad, but being in a time crunch, a 3 course meal was a bit much. The buffet was what I have always come for, and I am disappointed it's gone.

DO NOT BOTHER WASTING YOUR MONEY HERE. Food was ok. I think you can get the same quality or even better at a lesser priced restaurant. Ambiance/view only good if you are seated by the windows. The biggest turn off was the service. The host acted so "high & mighty" and "stuck up". I brought in guests from another country and they commented on how unfriendly the people were. When it was our turn to be seated, the host acted as if he did not see us. I had to remind him that we were next in line. HORRIBLE SERVICE. NEVER AGAIN! There are other restaurants in the city that have better service, same quality or better food, and not as over-priced.

I made a reservation 3 weeks before to make sure we have a good view of the fireworks for eve of 4th of July as our reservation is for 8 PM, table for 4. This is my husband's 70th birthday and I thought viewing the fireworks from a famous restaurant would be a nice touch. Oh, I was wrong!
The maitre' d sat us at the worst possible area and our table is against a big pillar completely blocking the view where the fireworks will be seen inspite of me reminding them by phone 2 weeks before and again as soon as we came in. The food wasso salty you'd think it's been brined or soaked in sea water especially the duck meat that came with foie gras!
Then when the fireworks started, we discreetly got near the window being careful of not
blocking other diners' view, the maitre' d rudely told me to" go back to your seat because your blocking everybody's view". The diners who heard him actually said they're ok and can see and we're not blocking them.
Then here comes desert. After several hints to the waitress, my husband, the celebrant still orders a desert and it came in a plate decorated with a "Happy Birthday"greeting and a tiny candle for him to blow. The check comes and lo and behold, his desert wasn't even complimentary!!! The waitress stated that they "do have a complimentary desert comprised of a spoonful of ice cream and a fruit served in a champaigne glass with a tiny candle if the celebrant did not order desert".
Last time my husband and I were here was Memorial Day also this year 2008 and we got a free meal because we waited and waited for a table and by that time the brunch dinner was out of food. We are not here to get free meals. We are two americans want to have good dinner and good time.

The signature room is not customer friendly. The theory must be get them in and get them out. I could see if we came on a holiday but it was a regular Sunday with many things going on downtown so there were no crowds. When we arrived, there were empty tables and when we were given dirty looks to leave, there were still plenty of empty tables. The food is okay (the egss benedict was cold) but the service was terrible. The guy serving us was sick and could not talk.
You get one drink and have to beg to get more. You even have to ask to get more water. Never again.

I so shocked by the bad reviews! been here for both lunch and dinner loved both! I agree the price is high for the dinner but the lunch is not bad, had the buffet 18$ per person and it was very good. the selection was not huge but we still enjoyed it. but as we all know the VIEW is what makes this resturant what it is. it is fantastic! i would eat McDonolds up here! the view is what makes it truly special!

The only reason I went to the Signature Room was because it was cheaper for me and a friend to order drinks and an appetizer than to pay for the observatory. The food was horrible and the service maybe average. Good view though.

I brought an old friend from Florida for lunch and have to say the person who first spoke to us was great and got us a window seat which is the only way to go.It was breathtaking but the service was awful! There were 3 of us and 2 of us got our lunch but they gave the third one to the wrong table but said it would only be a few minutes I finally had to flag our waitress down to go check what was taking so long.
