Red's is an anomaly--an authentic truck stop dropped right into the neighborhood. Sitting inside at the long counter, polishing off a huge plate of steak and eggs, it's easy to forget that the city, and not some lonely stretch of interstate, is right outside. Red's is long on fast, filling chow and short on decor. A beat-up black-and-white TV behind the counter keeps a game or newscast on, and a few video poker machines accommodate the fidgety who might have had too much of Red's coffee. The place thrives because so many genuine truckers dine here, stopping in after unloading their haul at any of the countless warehouses, factories and foundries in the area.
