Wish I Had Checked Here First
By Ms. Restaurant from Lincoln Square, March 27, 2008

Why bother eating out if the service is rude and incompetent? I wish I had known what I was in for before I went to Pauline's. I would have stayed home. Who knows if the food was any good? It was cold by the time it arrived. The order was wrong, but we decided to eat what we were given rather than wait any longer. How can this place stay in business? The waitstaff is obviously not trained in the basics of restaurant service, and not bright enough to have learned through observation at good restaurants.. Just hand 'em an order pad and send 'em out there!

The french toast I had was delicious. The waitress was very nice and chatty. The service was quick. I had to be at work that morning and was in and out pretty fast. I look forward to my next visit and trying the omelets

I have lived in the area for 6yrs EVERYTIME I go to this place which has only been less than a handful of times the food and service is terrible!! I would not suggest this place to anyone!! I wish they would just close the doors cause I would not miss it being GONE!! I tried giving this place a chance but everytime I had gone over the past 6 yrs it is just as bad as the time prior!!

Service is bad and slow. My toast was not delivered with my eggs, and I had to ask three times before it arrived. My husband's omelet did not come until LONG after everyone else had finished eating, and it was cold! Our waitress was clueless -- truly didn't seem to understand why we had a problem with the order of delivery or the temperature of the food.

I've lived in the neighborhood for years and I have to admit that I always meant to stop in and have some breakfast but didn't until about 3 months ago and now I can't go a week without breakfast at Paulines. Yes, the service can be iffy at times and yes it will definitly get crowded, but overall the place is great. Great food, great diner atmosphere, great portions, and great company if you plan it right! If you're in the neighborhood, I would give it a try. Just remember that like any other restaurant, when the place gets packed the staffs stress level will undestandably raise.

IT's been a staple in my n'hood for years. So, I want to be fair. But, not my kinda place, anymore:

- Avg diner food
- Eclectic, bright decor, just not scrupulously clean.
- Packed, a line on weekends.
- Eat. But don't linger, don't ask for more coffee, while owner is hovering over staff like a hornet! No complicated questions. Hurry up, eat, pay, and get out!
- It's ALL business, here.
So, I'm sorry to report, Pauline, the atmosphere there = :(.
Better off visiting other local Ander'lle establishments like Augies, Angels, or Ann Sathers - where the customer always comes first, the food is excellent, and you can relax and enjoy your meal, without being ignored, rushed, or rudely treated!

Overrated neighborhood diner. The restaurant's namesake runs this place like a tight ship and it shows. Tension in the air that makes the staff touchy. And don't forget lingering over that 2nd cup of coffee is okay as long as others aren't waiting for a table. Or you will be told.
