The people who gave Tiparos bad ratings don't know what real thai food is. There probably used to the watered down Americanized thai food. Tiparos is quality Thai food and it doesn't put a dent in your wallet. The delivery food is just as good as eating in the restaurant; the quality is not lost. I recommend the potstickers of course, and the curries are excellent. If you want good thai food Tiparos will deliver!

Great, attentive service, bad food
By gen from streeterville, June 21, 2008

I hate to give this place a bad review because our server was SO nice and attentive, but the food was not good, except for the sweet and sour soup. My friend had the pad thai and that was almost flavorless and I had the peppered steak with had very little flavor as well. Perhaps the cook wasn't feeling well that day because I heard great things about this place before I went. I was very disappointed, but I'll go back if I'm in the area to give it another chance.

Terrible

I dont know who gave this restaurant more than 1 star. It was the worst thai I have ever eaten. I ordered delivery and my meal didn't even come with rice! They told me that I needed to order it as a side. I ordered sweet and sour chicken...when does sweet and sour chicken NOT come with rice! The food was terrible too.

Lovely.

The food and service are very consistent and reliable. Great for lunch - Tiparos is animated and very friendly. At night, when the lights go down, it's elegant and quiet. The newly added sushi bar means that we now have 2 restaurants and menus for the price of one in our 'hood. The most reliable and delicious restaurant in Old Town/Gold Coast

Simply the Best

I am not too familiar with Thai food or Thai restaurants in general. However, after my visit to Tiparos I am thrilled to say that I have found the best in Chicago. I came to Tiparos with my girlfriend after seeing their review on Check Please. Once we stepped inside, we were greeted with a smile and a quick seating. We ordered a mango and strawberry smoothie, two noodle dishes and sushi. Let me tell you that everything we ordered was delicious and beautiful. Not to go unmentioned, the service at Tiparos is unbeatable. They are very friendly, knowledgable, and courteous when it comes to their menu but also understand the need for privacy and do not oversmother you. In addition, the prices cannot be beat. You can afford a great meal dining in or for pick up a few times a week without breaking the bank.
Everyone at Tiparos deserves a pat on the back for their quality food, outstanding service, and very low prices. They were great to us and we wish them the best of luck.
P.S. Thanks Tiparos staff for the pictures at the end of the night...you will not be forgotten.

Great Thai and Sushi Too!
By jknapp from River North, January 15, 2008

This is by far my favorite Thai place in Chicago. The food is very good, generous portions, the service is very attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and open. The owner always checks to make sure everything is great. Try the sushi! I know it seems strange (to have sushi in a thai restaurant) but their sushi (both the maki and the sashimi) is crazy good, crazy fresh. Best sushi I have had in Chicago. Get extra Unagi sauce. I don't know about some of the other reviews but we have always had a stellar meal (take out or eat in).

EXCELLENT CRAB RANGOON!
By chioldtown from Old Town, December 16, 2007

Ordered take out for the first time today. Based on the mixed reviews, I didn't know what to expect. When arriving to pick up my order, I thought the restaurant atmosphere comfortable. I ordered the crab rangoon app and the chicken pad thai, The crab rangoon was WONDERFUL...possibly the best I've ever experienced!!! I'd give the pad thai 3 stars....not bad yet not great. The noodles were a bit overcooked for my preference and the chicken was just ok. Untrue to the horrible reviews, the staff was friendly both when placing my order over the phone and when in the restaurant for pick up. They also were able to have my order ready for me in 15 minutes! I would order take out again or return to dine at the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to a friend.

Good Food for Neighborhood Thai Place
By DJM60610 from Old Town, December 4, 2007

I live 2 blocks away and often pick up food for take out. Servings are large (2 meals worth) and I've enjoyed most dishes. I especially enjoy the Golden Noodles.

The dining area is not fancy, but the service is good. Celebrity Spotting: I saw Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) in there about a year ago with his girlfriend. Wasn't sure if it was him at first, but how many weird looking bald guys dressed in black with a hot Russian girlfriend complaining about not getting paid enought to play Lollapalooza (in 2006) can there be walking around town?

I've had better!

If your looking for average quality Thai food with a decent price, then try Tiparos. I have never been to the restauarant, but have ordered food for delivery. It takes anywhere from 45-60 minutes for delivery, so dont order if your are about to die of starvation, go elsewhere.

Food Quality: I ordered chicken egg rolls (tasted like almost every egg roll I've eaten before) which came with a sweet and sour sauce that was better than I expected, cashew chicken (had barely any flavor), and Thai Iced Tea (this was do HORRIBLE, that after one sip, into the trash it went).

Overall, like a mentioned before, if you want a cheap meal, then try Tiparos, becuase thats what you'll get. And I mean cheap as in quality!!!

I gave a 5 for Ambiance, but thats only because is was at home!

I used to be a loyal Tiparos customer, but I can't deal with the rude service anymore. When you call for delivery the lady is ridiculously rude. I put up with it for 6 years, but now I am done. I'll find someplace where they appreciate their customers.
